To help you …
- add academic complexity, sophistication, and style to your manuscript.
- clarify your main theses and topics while avoiding boilerplate repetition.
- strengthen your arguments by improving sentence- and paragraph-level transitions, cutting unnecessary jargon and ‘academese’.
- ‘get to the point’ by reducing over-description, wordiness, and redundancies.
Think of line editing as a heavy copyedit. The basic structure and writing of the manuscript is solid, but it could need sentence and paragraph revision. Some reordering may also be required to improve clarity, the logical flow of the argument, and the narrative flow of the research ‘story’. At this editing level, I regularly consult with the writer on any restructuring I think may be needed. The time required for line editing varies but generally ranges from 1–4 pages per hour.
